Madden was the first game I got with my Wii. I love the way they've integrated the controls, and it really feels as if you have input into the action on the field, much more so in the PC versions that I've played.
BUT...
The instructions for navigating all the various ins and out of franchise mode are horrible, and not helped by the fact that layered menu navigation in general is one of the Wii's real weak spots. It's slow and clunky to get around on a Wii in general.
Trades are frustrating, if you put the wrong player on the block it seems easier to cancel the whole deal rather than remove or replace that one guy.
If your starting quarter back has a bad game, he slides behind in the position battle and the next thing you know your stuck with your second stringer unless you change it, not in the roster, but in the position battle screen. I would have really liked an easy way to check the pre-game line-up.
Granted, some of the problems stem from my general lack of football knowledge (why are there only four innings, shouldn't there be nine?) But moreso it seems that EA really took for granted that anyone playing on this platform was already going to be very familiar with the ins and out of Madden.
I bought a game guide hoping it would help, but it turned out to be for the x-box, and mostly it was a play book. Good for what it is, but I think EA really needs to provide a better, detailed instruction book, not just the little flyer in the case, which outlines the Wii controls well, but does very little to describe the many facets of franchise play and is more of a quick start guide.|||the instructions are lame. and some of the pre-snap controls stink too. its hard to select a receiver to put in motion or call a hot route with the wiimote. is there a way to cycle through offensive players to select them for hot routes?|||> the instructions are lame. and some of the pre-snap

I agree. While it might be easy enough to figure out the controls the instruction does nothing to navigate you through the season. I've been eternally stuck in preseason with no way of finding out how to navigate to regular season play. EAS should be ashamed for charging the money they charge for a game but not providing in depth explanations on how to fully utilize and appreciate all the features they've added to Madden 07. Without detailed instructions the features are useless.
